Report on results and work carried out on the European Union Ecolabel and EMAS Registration in the Basque Country during the year 2023. It presents the evolution of the European Union Ecolabel in Basque companies and the representativeness of the products and certificates of the Basque Autonomous Community with respect to the rest of the state. As well as the evolution of the European Environmental Management System in Basque companies.

This handbook provides a methodology for establishing a business model aligned with the principles of the circular economy through product servitisation.

Over 200 industrial companies of the Basque Country are now applycing circular models based on ecodesign, mainly in the automotive, transport equipment, electrical and electronic equipment, machine-tool, metal, chemical, furniture and building sectors, along with the environmental services subsector.

The Basque Green Deal sets the targets for reducing emissions and generating renewable energy in the Basque Country. However, it is not restricted to those areas, as it seeks to be an economic model with industry and technology as the main levers. Thus, science, technology, the circular economy, industry, energy transition and the food chain itself are aligned with a single goal: just and sustainable development.

This document provides a brief contextualisation of the NBS, as well as their role in the policy, planning, and financing framework in the Basque Country. The aim is to provide agents involved in proposing, designing, and implementing this type of solution with the essential foundations for their conception and deployment.

The NBS have been classified based on their scale of intervention at the municipal level, and characterised in terms of the climate challenges they address and the co-benefits they provide.

The technologies included in the Basque Clean Technologies List provide the company with tax and environmental benefits, as acquiring any of the technologies on the list results in 35% of the investment cost of the equipment being tax deductible for corporation tax purposes.
